“Remploy’s Brixton Factory to Close”
Message posted by Fantasticspastic on 25 July, 2007:
You’re probably by now, that Remploy is proposing to close 43 of it 83 factories across the country. Should they succeed in this disgraceful act of industrial sabotage; they will in effect be consigning some 2,500 disabled people to a life of state benefits; which will mean for many, a life of poverty.Around 18 months ago Crosfield Industries, a Croydon Council funded supported employment scheme closed. Of the 87 disabled people who lost their jobs, only around 7 have since found employment. This doesn’t bode well for the 40+ disabled people at the Brixton Remploy factory; who, if the company gets its way, will be out of work.
Please, contact your MP and ask her or him to sign EDM 1583. This is not a contentious Motion; no, it merely asks for a moratorium on the factory closures while the Trade Union Consortium negotiates with the company to find a way to make Remploy work.
