Making Space - Lambeth Mental Health Carer Support Service

The Lambeth Mental Health Carer Support Service offers support for adults who are unpaid carers of a friend or family member with a mental health concern. The service offers:
• Information and advice on a range of issues such as housing, welfare benefits, further education, employment, mental health and mental illness;
• Sign-posting;
• Advocacy;
• Support in accessing Carer Assessments;
• Respite options;
• Educational carer breaks;
• One-to-one emotional support.
In addition, we facilitate a Black and Minority Ethnic Mental Health Carer Support Group that runs from Effra Day Centre monthly as well as a Generic Carers Support Group running bi-monthly in collaboration with Lambeth Hospital.
To be eligible to access the service carers must meet the following criteria:
• Be an unpaid carer for a friend or family member with a mental health issue;
• Be aged 18 years and over;
• Care for a friend or family member who is aged 18-65 years;
• The carer can either reside in Lambeth or outside the borough. The cared for adult however must reside in Lambeth.

If the carer requires ongoing one-to-one support (defined as 3 or more sessions), they must have an up-to-date Carer’s Assessment. The cared for person must also meet the substantial or critical level of the council’s Fair Access to Care Services (FACS) criteria.
Referrals are accepted from any professional or from carers themselves. They can be made via phone, fax, post or email using the details listed below.
