Lambeth Cabinet to decide on new social care charging policy

Only one amendment has been made to the original proposals. If agreed by Cabinet, the recommendations would mean that, from October 2011:
• Each service will be charged at its actual cost. This means ending the provision of free day care and double handed personal care for those people who can afford to pay
• Charging full cost for sheltered housing and direct payments for those people who can afford to pay
• Removal of the current maximum charge of £300 per week
• Removal of exemptions from charging for Supporting People services
• Only people receiving Attendance Allowance or Disability Living Allowance would automatically receive the £25 waiver for Disability Related expenditure (those who do not would have to evidence this)
• People using care homes for planned respite would be charged on their ability to pay rather than on a standard fixed charge
