Lambeth ACCORD, an absolute Star !
The Star Social Firm quality standard - the first quality standard in the social enterprise sector - was developed by Social Firms UK and is externally validated by SFEDI the government-recognised standards setting body for both Business Enterprise and Business Support. It is awarded to Social Firms that have proved the quality of their business and the employment they provide for disadvantaged people.
Lambeth ACCORD has been an important centre for disabled people in Lambeth for the last 27 years and is about to embark on an ambitious £7 million refurbishment and extension to enhance existing facilities and upgrade the building to become again the leading edge exemplar model for accessibility, sustainability and modern environmental standards.
Lambeth ACCORD is a Centre of Excellence for the disability sector. It positively encourages people with impairments by example through its employment practises, by providing support and affordable office space to sixteen disability charities, nurturing new disability charities and through its supplier selection. It also provides accessible meeting space for third sector organisations and local churches.
The charity is also very much involved in the development of Lambeth Centre for Independent Living - it is proposed that the Accord Centre becomes the main base for the CIL.
Manager Adrian Harris commented “Being awarded Star Social Firm status will be of enormous benefit to Lambeth ACCORD. The qualification process itself was very rigorous and it comes at a very important time for us as we start fundraising to enable us to complete the redevelopment of the current site. As a badge of quality it will demonstrate to customers, partners and donors that we are a reliable business that inspires confidence.”

Social Firms UK Chief Executive, Sally Reynolds, said: “I am delighted for Adrian and his team at Lambeth ACCORD. They have worked tirelessly over the years for their local community and the Star validates those efforts. Star Social Firms are companies that have proved to be thriving businesses where staff say, ‘this is a good place to work’.”
