Do you need to renew your DASL membership?

The data protection law is changing and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) becomes law on the 25th May 2018.

Below is a message from David Strong, DASL Director

Information we hold for members

In order to be a membership organisation, DASL is required to request and hold information about you. This could include some or all of the following:

Your name and address
Your phone number and email address

As a membership organisation, we are required to use this information to contact you about our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and any other General Meetings we may arrange.

New membership form

We have a new membership form that we are asking you to complete by the 25th May 2018.

You can complete the new membership form online at

We have updated this form so we can be clear on a few things including:

- what you are happy for us to send you and how (phone, text, letter, email etc)

(We have a lot of information about services, activities and events that you might want to know about. We want to know what to send you and be more responsive to your interests and invite you to be involved in campaigns and make sure you consent to us sending this to you.)

- if you are happy for us to have some more details about you to help us understand if our membership is representative of our local community.

You can choose to provide us with some or all of the following information if you want in our new form.

Whether you are a Disabled person or Carer
Your sex, age group, sexuality, ethnic origin, first language and religion

We will keep this information confidential and all information is kept in line with our Data Protection policy.

If you complete the new form

We will contact you in the way you have asked us to about the information you have agreed to.

If you change your mind about the information you want us to send you, please let us know.

If you don’t complete the new form

If you are a DASL member, you will still be a DASL member but we will only contact you using your details you have given us to invite you to our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and any other General Meetings we may arrange.

We cannot send you any other information about activities or services after the 25th May 2018 and we cannot hold any other information about you that we don’t need for your membership.

If you complete the new form after the 25th May 2018

We will contact you in the way you have asked us to about the information you have agreed to when we receive the new form and not until then.

We very much hope that you continue to want to be a DASL member but if you have changed your mind then please contact us and we will update your records.
