Have your say in Lambeth’s Council Disability and Equality Scheme

Lambeth Council has just renewed their Equality and diversity project that was launched in May 2006 in help of developing the council’s Disability Equality Scheme. The team is particularly encouraging Lambeth residents to get in touch and give feedback or have their say in any services or issues they encounter in the different aspects of accessing and using local services. Suggestions on how people feel their needs are met, or not, are welcomed and needed, particularly as disabled people are the ones that can really know what works best for services tailored for them. This is a very needed opportunity for disabled residents to help shape the scheme. There will also be meetings which residents will be able to attend and get involved in, DASL will notify you when they take place.

Brixton’s Weekly Inclusive Performing Arts Workshops for children

Chicken shed outreach project in Brixton is offering weekly drama, dance and music workshops that are particularly designed to be inclusive of people of all ethnicities who might additionally suffer from any form of disability. This project helps children develop their own creative genius to contribute to the group and there are no auditions as there is the belief that each child has always something very valuable to contribute to the team. The workshops are held on Mondays for just over an hour, are very fun, and for those who attend it consistently, will culminate to a summer performance show to be viewed and enjoyed by the local community and the performing children's families. No experience necessary.

STOP GIVING US STICK - RNIB CAMPAIGN FOR DLA

RNIB need your help to keep pressure on the Government at this crucial stage of the DLA campaign.
They say:
"We may be in the final stages of the DLA campaign and urgently need your help. We are campaigning to extend eligibility to claim the higher rate mobility component of DLA to people with severe sight loss.
The Government is now in the process of making its decision about whether or not to make the changes. Although we know that the changes can be made and there is strong support for this from DWP Ministers, we are also aware that the Government is under extreme financial pressure. We believe that the decision could go either way.
It is absolutely vital that the Government is reminded just how strongly you and your MP feel about this issue. We have fought hard to get this far, we need the Government to know that we will go on fighting until they make the right decision, until they put right this injustice. To do this we must work together."
