Job reference: RP-MS-27OCT19
Closing date: 27 October, 2019

Experienced Male Personal Assistants are required to support a young man with autism and learning disabilities near Streatham Common.

A good awareness and understanding of autism is essential and an ability to follow behavioural guidelines, set firm boundaries and work in a consistent manner is vital to ensuring the client receives the care and support he requires in order to lead a healthy and independent life.

Due to the nature of the role you must be confident in managing challenging behaviour and be physically fit in order to keep up with an active young man who enjoys going out and about in the local community in all weathers, including riding his bike, going swimming and skateboarding amongst other activities.

The job would suit someone who lives locally as shifts may be available at short notice and it would be beneficial to have a good knowledge of the local area as the client enjoys going out and about and accessing the community on a daily basis.

The client requires support 24/7 and various shifts and hours will be available, up to 40 hours a week. You will be working as part of a team of Personal Assistants, often alongside other carers on a 2:1 basis. Therefore good clear communication is important as well as an ability to work as part of a team and be flexible in covering other shifts as and when required.

Daytime working hours will be paid at £10.55 per hour. Sleep-in/night rate is yet to be confirmed.

SM180919SM Support worker required for disabled man living in SW9

Job reference: SM180919SM
Closing date:

Job Description
I’m a disabled man in my very early sixties (very early, even earlier than the early birds) and I’m looking for a support worker /PA to work with me. Here’s the bit about me:
Though I’m a wheelchair user I do have limited mobility. At home I use a manual wheelchair and sometimes walking sticks; and when I leave my home I use an electric wheelchair.
On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays I work. I live in SW9 and my workplace is quite near to my home, so that’s handy.
My days off and evenings are spent in a variety of different ways. Some time is spent on trade union activities. Disability campaigning is another of my passions; and, I’m an active member of the Labour Party.
The PA/support worker I’m looking for must have a valid driving licence that is clear of points, and supports driving a manual car. Other qualifying requirements, the usual, punctuality, courteousness, an understanding of the social model of disability (I can talk job applicants through this).
The tasks I need carrying out for personal care are:
• Assistance getting out of bed,
• Toileting,
• Showering, and
• Dressing
Other duties would include:
• Some housework,
• Laundry,
• Shopping
• Driving me to meetings, family and friends visits,
• Swimming, and
• Holiday and sickness cover for my other PAs/support workers.
Some of the work will be in evenings and nights; and from time to time overnight away from home. There is also the possibly of foreign travel.
At the moment I can offer 12 hours per week @ £10.55 per hour (flexible days and times)
