Female personal assistant required to support a mother and baby in Streatham.
If you are a child friendly person who enjoys helping others and are looking to earn a bit of extra money each week than this is the opportunity for you!
You are predominately required to help with housework. However you will also be supporting the mother and baby to access the community, attend play groups, go shopping and prepare healthy meals.
Due to the mother’s fluctuating health there may also be some personal care required in the future. You must be flexible and patient, sensitive and responsive to the changing nature of the mother’s needs
Whilst the work is for 5 to 10 hours per week the times and days are negotiable and may vary depending on what is planned each week. However you will usually be required to work between 9am – 5pm, Monday – Friday. Hourly rate £10.00
Preferably you will be a car driver with your own vehicle which you are willing to use for work and have a good level of general fitness is required due to the physical nature of the role.
A DBS check and references will be required for successful applicant.

• Experienced in working with young children
• Reliable and trustworthy
• Have an awareness of disability related issues and be able to respond appropriately to fluctuating health needs
• Able to handle the physical tasks of lifting, handling, pushing and bending. You do not need to be physically strong to do certain tasks well, but it does help, together with good general health
• Able to keep calm in potentially stressful situations.
• You must understand and be mindful of your employer’s right to dignity, respect and independence.
• You must be willing to communicate and discuss any problems as soon as they arise.

DASL is an established Disabled People’s Organisation providing a range of advice, information, professional advocacy, Personal Budgets support and peer support services to Disabled people, and to older people and carers, in Lambeth.

We have been commissioned by Lambeth Council since 2011 to provide an issue-based Professional Advocacy service to Disabled and older people and from April 2015 this has been extended to include carers. It is one of the key services being delivered by DASL for the Lambeth Independent Living and Carers’ Partnership, in which we are working with other local voluntary sector organisations. Our service includes statutory Care Act advocacy but is not responsible for the IMCA or IMHA services for Lambeth.

We are seeking to appoint an advocate to complete our small, experienced team as soon as possible. Reporting to the Advocacy Team Leader, you will carry a diverse and challenging caseload and help us to deliver a high quality, responsive service to meet the needs of clients referred under the Care Act and through other routes.

Our preference is for a person who holds, or is currently working towards, a recognised and accredited advocacy qualification such as the Certificate/Diploma in Independent Advocacy (at Level 3), but we will also consider applicants who can demonstrate relevant experience in a formal or informal advocacy role.

‘A’ is a 22-year-old woman who has ASD (autism spectrum disorder) who lives with her family in Streatham. ‘A’ is non-verbal and is quite a character. She is strong minded and can be quite obsessive about things, such as collecting dry leaves as she likes the sound they make. ‘A’ isn’t very tactile, except on her terms. 
The main areas in which ‘A’ needs support are:
• Toileting
• Washing and dressing
• Getting ready for bed
• Being watched over
‘A’ enjoys:

• Open spaces (preferable to crowded confused spaces)
• Shops
• Going out into the community in the evenings
The ideal person for the job would be a woman with some knowledge and understanding of autism. Someone who is flexible with time and punctual; as strict routine is an important factor in the day-to-day living of ‘A’.
The job is for 8 hours per week Mon-Fri during term time and 20 hours per week over 5 days including a Saturday during college holidays. The job pays £10.20 per hour.
