You will be provided with appropriate training as necessary; however you will need to prove your ability to provide support and assistance with the following:
- Mobility needs: assistance on journeys including all forms of public and (as appropriate) private transport, including travel abroad.
- Communication needs: mostly use of non-verbal communication, ‘Makaton’ signing, pictorial symbols and use of a facilitated communication aid (training provided)
- Personal/Self-care needs: some basic assistance with personal hygiene and dressing.
- Diet: Support with food selection and preparation
- Work/Employment/Social/Leisure needs: support to participate in activities of personal interest and discovering new activities e.g. of shared interest
- Learning needs: some support in learning settings e.g. college (not necessarily to learning assistant level)
- Other: working alongside parent and others in team, carry out reasonable household duties related to the individual needs of the person you will be supporting.


This job is best suited to someone who is enthusiastic, energetic, creative and imaginative and is also open-minded and friendly with a positive/light hearted sense of humour.

It would also be a great advantage if you can demonstrate the following:

• Some knowledge of equal opportunities and inclusion.
• Knowledge and/or enjoyment of some or all of the following: - use of the internet and computers/tablet/ipad, latest tech,
computer gaming, gadgets, live music, visual arts, films, cooking, eating-out, travel, rambling, camping, ecological/environmental issues, conservation, gym, cycling, and swimming
• Behaviour which is honest, reliable and responsible and also able to keep brief records and be self-reflective.
• Very good social skills.
• Confidence and ability to be assertive but also patient and flexible.
• Ability to be empathetic sensitive to the individual and personal needs of someone who has significant learning difficulties, ready to acknowledge their strengths.
• Ability to learn how to communicate non-verbally and willingness to learn how to enable and facilitate inclusion and participation.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, use initiative and make positive and appropriate decisions in difficult and potentially challenging situations.
• Respect for the privacy of the family and ability to keep all information about family and friends confidential.
• Whilst working adopt behaviour that acknowledges and respects the family’s values


• PAY: £10ph – £14ph
• During 12 week induction period pay is£10ph.
• Pay increases to £10.50ph after successfully completing first 12 weeks. Subsequent increases happen as part of ongoing appraisals process.
• Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks will be carried out.
• Preferably you will live in Lambeth or surrounding boroughs or can easily travel to Brixton hill.
• Permanent employment for up to 40 hours 5 days a week.
• Hours are flexible and so can also be 10-20 hours a week over 2 or more days.
• Pay includes paid annual leave.
• External supervision, training and all overnights are paid at the national minimum hourly rate
• Specific and ongoing training, guidance and external supervision is provided, with particular focus on any needs you may have in making inclusion happen and developing relationships with individual who is being assisted, his family, community and other contacts.
• Following reference checks, successful applicant will be able to begin a trial period immediately
